There are questions we have about school that go unanswered, or unasked, even. School’s been around a lot longer than you have — don’t bother questioning it. But there’s so much about school that’s maddening. My feeling on it was that people could only change it once they were out of it, and once they were out it, they ceased to care. In reality, ‘reform’ is complex, and by function of having a democratic government in such a polarized cultural society, we will not see a dramatic change any time soon.
But I know you take exception to a lot that goes on. You have questions. All I can offer you is experience. I’m a recent graduate of a four year college, and because I performed above average through the years, I mostly studied school itself, because it made me so mad.
This blog isn’t about educational reform, it’s about individual reform — we can’t change the system, but I can help you maximize it. Avoid the mistakes I made: save more money than I did, better prepare yourself for what comes after, and most of all, alleviate the stress. There is no purpose to stress, and yet it seems to be their number one priority.
This is a Student’s Perspective…
My name’s Harrison Chute, and I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Communications Media.
Yeah — my thoughts exactly. I also majored in Professional Writing, which gives me license to write. In terms of employment, though? Nothing doing.
I moved out to LA from Massachusetts a month after graduation, and found myself in a peculiar but all too common situation: overqualified for the minimum wage, I-need-to-pay-my-rent kinda jobs, and not even worth considering for jobs where if you want this job, you need experience. And if you want experience, you needed to have a job.
I’m sure I’ll get a job soon, but this predicament is better avoided.

It’s about science-fiction.
